If there’s ever a lockdown in your city, your emergency drinking water resources may be limited unless you are able to access a spring or some type of extraneous water.

In the event of an electrical outage, many people run out of the important liquid in only a few hours.

It is one of the essentials of survival as far as I’m concerned!

We lived without electricity recently for around 16 hours, and we soon realized that we have to consider an emergency drinking water plan.

Even though we have a home near streams and springs where we could easily get drinking water, there is still the danger of contamination.

Additional sources on the interior of your home:

If a disaster catches you without a stored supply of clean water, you can use the following solutions:

If household water supply is okay to drink, so is the water in your pipes and hot-water system, even if the idea seems less than appealing.

When draining your hot-water tank, make sure you’ve turned the power to the unit off, then release the drain that’s near the bottom of the tank. Get the water flow going by turning off the water intake valve at the tank and turning on a hot-water faucet.

Make sure the tank is refilled in advance of turning the power back on.

To use the water in your pipes, identify and turn on the top faucet in your house to allow air into the plumbing. You then can get water from the lowest faucet.

If you want to locate water outside your home, try:

# Streams, rivers, and other moving bodies of water

Take care to purify and filter the water from one of these sources prior to drinking it. You shouldn’t ever drink flood water.

Untreated water can make one very, very sick. Dysentery, typhoid and hepatitis, are all diseases that you could get from drinking bacteria-ridden water.

Some of the easiest kinds of emergency water treatment are by boiling it if possible or by adding chlorine to it.

Boil for about one minute, and then pour it back and forth from one container to another numerous times before drinking it which will make it taste better. And of course cooling it down it will help the flavor as well.

Using household bleach, add about 1/8th teaspoon to a gallon of water and let set for about one half hour. You need it to smell slightly of chlorine so if you’re unable to smell the chlorine after you’ve allowed it to sit for half an hour, you will have to do it again.

If you still don’t smell the chlorine , try a different source of waterand remember that even these methods are not absolutely foolproof but will be of assistance to you if you are ever seriously in need of emergency drinking water.

For everyday water needs, such as doing the wash and cleansing yourself, you shouldn’t need emergency water treatment. You can make use of rain water, creek water etcRain water is actually some of the best water to wash your hair in makes for lovely soft shiny hair:)
